I am involved since now twenty years to produce some usefull dogs for the farm owners. I beleive that the Australian Shepherd can be one good working dog if the capabilities to work the stock are selected at every generation. I do all the health tests, DNA health tests included. I strongly think that the only valuable breed standard is the working hability. Everything else bring us in the wrong direction to protect our breed. I think that we should talk about training and share our knowledges and train our dogs. We should talk about trialing and trial our dogs. We should talk about tips to involve our knowledges and habilities to handle our dogs. We should learn to use the whistle and train in larger fields. We have to be proud of our breed and take the time to show their capabilities, their good sides (switch on and off and house’s gardian, good partnership on the day to day work on the farm, etc) Personally, I cannot do a day of work without my dog beside me.
